The ‘Bell Nexus’ Flying Car Concept Could be the Future Uber Air-Taxi

Among the many concept vehicles being shown off at CES 2019, the ‘Bell Nexus’ hybrid vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) aircraft are one of the more interesting ones. Built by Uber’s air-taxi partner, Bell Helicopter, the vehicle is a full-scale air taxi that promises to solve the age-old problem of urban traffic congestion.
The Bell Nexus uses a hybrid-electric propulsion system and features Bell’s signature powered lift concept incorporating six tilting ducted fans that are designed to safely and efficiently redefine air travel.
In an official press release, Bell said that the Nexus is the result of its collaboration with a number of other companies, including Safran, EPS, Thales, Moog, and Garmin. While Bell will lead the design, development, and production of the VTOL systems, the rest will provide various hardware and software components.
