WhatsApp Spent Over Rs 120 Crore on Anti Fake News Campaigns in India

According to a report today, WhatsApp has spent about Rs 120 crore on print, television, and radio advertising over the last five months in India, to tackle the growing problem of fake news, misinformation, and rumors on its platform
Some of WhatsApp’s efforts include radio, newspaper and TV ads in India, creating awareness of how rumors are spread among small and large groups. WhatsApp had over 32,475 ad insertions in  December alone, according to the Economic Times report.
It also says that print advertising is the largest cost center in this exercise and that spending is likely to increase in 2019 as India will go to vote in the Lok Sabha elections, the largest national elections in the world.
