Facebook has reportedly started to block posts that it deems to be ‘locally illegal’ in India. According to The Indian Express, the object of Facebook’s censorship include a wide range of topics, including mentions of ‘Azad’ Kashmir, ‘objectionable’ depictions of Hindu deities and the presence of the Indian Tricolor on clothing below the waist.
The aforementioned markers are apparently among 20 locally illegal content mentioned in the company’s India-specific guidelines, which says such content should be flagged by moderators in the country for further review, even without any take-down notice from the government and/or law enforcement agencies.
