With a view towards getting more diverse content for its upcoming video streaming service, Apple has reportedly inked a deal with Oscar-winning filmmaker, Ron Howard, and his production partner, Brian Grazer, to carry their ‘Imagine Documentary’ series on its platform.
According to Variety, the two sides have signed a ‘first-look pact’ for non-fiction features, giving Apple the first right of refusal. What it means in essence is that Apple will get the first chance to buy (or refuse to buy) these documentaries before they can be offered to any other platform.
Apple has been acquiring a slew of non-fiction programs for its upcoming streaming service, including niche works such as The Elephant Queen, as well as several music-related documentaries.
