In-display fingerprint scanners are expected to start showing up in relatively more affordable devices by the end of this year, and companies like Xiaomi are also expected to get in on the bandwagon.
Xiaomi’s co-founder and president, Lin Bin, recently posted on Weibo a short, 26-second video that seems to show a faster, more reliable in-display scanner that the company says took several months to perfect.
According to the video, the technology will not only be faster and more reliable than most of the current solutions, but also have a wider recognition area, measuring 25 mm x 50.2 mm. It’s not immediately clear which phones will sport this new technology.
