Social media giants are gearing up to lobby against new rules in India that would require them to actively regulate content on their platforms.
The rules have been proposed to compel Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter, and Google to remove so-called unlawful content, within 24 hours of a complaint.
It is expected to be adopted as law on January 31, and some experts say the rules are more for censorship rather than tackling actual sensitive content. According to a Reuters report, companies have started working on drafting objections on the rules proposed by the Narendra Modi government in the second-largest internet user base in the world.
