The torrent of negative press for Facebook has swelled significantly since the #DeleteFacebookmovement first gained momentum in the aftermath of the Cambridge Analytica scandal.
More and more people are logging off Facebook and deleting the app from their phones out of concerns for their privacy, but many are now finding out that they are unable to uninstall the app from their Samsung smartphones.
Many of Samsung’s smartphones come pre-installed with the Facebook app, and as with most such software, users can only ‘disable’ it, and not uninstall it fully from their devices, as pointed out by this Bloomberg report.
Both Samsung and Facebook have played down the complaints, saying that all privacy concerns are unfounded. According to their spokespersons, once disabled, the app is as good as deleted, and it doesn’t collect data or send information back to Facebook.
