Official USB Type-C Authentication Program Will Block Shady Third-Party Chargers, Devices

USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) has launched the USB Type-C Authentication Program to enable devices to confirm the authenticity of a USB device to mitigate risks from malicious hardware exploiting USB connections, and to prevent charging hazards from third-party chargers.
The USB-IF has chosen DigiCert to manage the PKI and certificate authority services for the protocol that makes use of 128-bit security for all cryptographic methods. The program will confirm the authenticity of USB devices, cables, or chargers to make life easier for end users. The authenticity check is performed when a connection is made to ensure that no inappropriate power or data is transferred.
