Internet Pioneer Lawrence Roberts Passes Away Aged 81

One of the pioneers of the internet, Lawrence “Larry” Roberts, passed away from a heart attack on December 26 at his home in California at the age of 81.
Often referred to as ‘the grandfather of the internet’, he is widely credited as being one of the foremost contributors towards the development of the internet, having served in the 1960s as the program manager for ARPANET at the Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) under the US Department of Defense.
The precursor to the internet as we know it today, the ARPANET was the first to implement the packet-switching technology and the TCP/IP protocol, both of which are core functionalities of the Internet today.
