Canon has officially confirmed that it’s working on a new consumer-grade camera that can record 8K videos. In an interview to Imaging Resources, the Group Executive at Canon’s ICB Products Group, Yoshiyuki Mizoguchi, confirmed that such a device is already in the company’s future roadmap.
According to Mizoguchi, “Video will play a huge role in the EOS R System for sure. For example, an 8K video capable camera is already in our EOS R-series roadmap.”
Canon is also rumored to be working on a 100MP EOS R camera with in-body image stabilization (IBIS) to replace the aging 50.6MP EOS 5DS DSLR, but that one isn’t expected to be launched until at least next year.
