Security and privacy continues to be a nightmare around IoT devices. A new report from The Intercept claims that Amazon may have seriously compromised the privacy of homes and users with Ring security cameras.
According to the report, some Amazon employees with “highly privileged access” were able to access video recordings as well as live footage from the cameras using only the email address associated with the account. Low-level employees allegedly still had access to user information and videos as late as October 2018.
The alleged breach apparently happened in Ukraine, with the all-access pass reportedly given to the company’s Ukranian team by Ring founder Jamie Siminoff in 2016, before Amazon purchased the company in 2017.
Ring has issued a statement saying that it values customer privacy, but didn’t deny the allegations forthright. You can read the full statement on The Intercept.
