As part of its efforts to grab a larger share of the ever-expanding online ad market, Amazon has launched a new video streaming service separate from Prime Videos.
The IMDb Freedive, which went live yesterday in the US, is an ad-supported free video-on-demand (VoD) service that offers a collection of TV shows and movies on IMDb’s website or through Amazon Fire TV devices.
In an official press release, the company said that the initial catalog includes recent reality shows such as The Bachelor and Duck Dynasty as well as classics, such as Dallas and Gilligan’s Island.
Movies such as Awakenings, Foxcatcher, Run Lola Run, The Last Samurai, True Romance, Monster and The Illusionist are also part of the list. More shows will be added to the service before a wider roll-out, Amazon said.
