At least eleven schools in the south-west Chinese province of Guizhou are reportedly using ‘smart uniforms’ to monitor the exact locations of their students.
According to the principal of one of the schools that have implemented the new technology, the uniforms help school authorities record their students’ whereabouts, which are then sent to their respective parents and teachers.
Facial recognition systems installed at these schools further ensure that each uniform is worn by its rightful owner to prevent students from changing their clothes and cheating the system.
According to the Global Times, the uniforms are made by Guizhou Guanyu Technology Company and use GPS chips embedded in the uniforms’ shoulders to track students’ movements. The smart clothes can reportedly withstand up to 500 washes and up to 150-degree Celsius temperatures.
