Spanish Church With Supercomputer Voted ‘World’s Most Beautiful Data Center’

MareNostrum 4, the main supercomputer at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC), last month won an award from Datacenter Dynamics (DCD) for being the ‘Most Beautiful Data Center in the World’ahead of other impressive installations.
The MareNostrum 4 is located at the Torre Girona chapel that was built in 1940s, but is being used for housing the machine since 2005. According to BSC, the building was reconfigured to accommodate the machine, but much of the chapel’s classic architecture, including the original pillars, the arched gallery and the stained glass windows, remains intact.
The compound also houses gardens and a pond, making it one of the most serene and beautiful locations befitting one of the most powerful supercomputers in the world.
