The XBMC Foundation has accused Sony of "actively preventing users from installing Kodi on their newer Android TVs". As pointed out by Android Police, the accusation was officially made last week, but several Sony TV users have apparently been complaining about the move over the past several weeks.
It's worth noting here that according to some users, Sony might have implemented a perfunctory blocking of Kodi based on its package ID - something that can be easily circumvented by recompiling the package.
According to a Kodi enthusiast who identifies as 'chrisyu' on the Kodi forums, "I think Sony blocked Kodi’s package id. Me and some users tested, both Kodi 18 64bit and 32bit cannot be installed. I compiled (Kodi) 32bit, changed its package id to com.amazon.aiv.eu. Kodi installed and runs just fine".
