Netflix has started blocking viewers in Saudi Arabia from accessing an episode of 'Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj' after it was said to be in violation of the country's cyber-crime laws.
Human rights organizations, including Amnesty International, have slammed the move as a tame surrender to the country's authoritarian de-facto leader, Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, who has been widely blamed for the brutal murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
Meanwhile, Netflix has pleaded innocence, saying that it had to block the video in Saudi Arabia to comply with local laws. According to a statement released by the streaming giant, "We strongly support artistic freedom worldwide and removed this episode only in Saudi Arabia after we had received a valid legal request".
