V-Bucks, the official in-game currency of Fortnite is increasingly being used as a tool for money laundering on the dark web. According to an investigation by The Independent, hackers are using stolen credit cards to purchase V-Bucks and reselling them at a discount to players as a way of ‘cleaning up’ the money.
The research was carried out cyber-security firm, Sixgill, whose researchers unearthed the scam by pretending to be potential customers and engaging in transactions with the alleged criminals. The report says the activity isn’t restricted to the dark web but is also happening on social media, although, on a relatively smaller scale.
