To compete with Netflix, Amazon Prime Videos and homegrown video streaming services, Hotstar is said to be investing Rs. 120 crore to produce a number of exclusive original shows that it believes will appeal to the Indian audience.
The Star company has tied-up with the likes of Salman Khan, Shekhar Kapur, Neeraj Pandey, Kabir Khan, Nikkhil Advani, Ram Madhvani, Venkat Prabhu, Sudhir Mishra, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Nagesh Kukunoor, Mahesh Manjrekar, Vishal Furia, Rohan Sippy, Debbie Rao, and Sharad Devarajan.
To be marketed as ‘Hotstar Specials’, shows with these big names will debut before the end of the current quarter. The content will be dubbed in many languages, including Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam.
