A report out of Chile suggests that the ATM infrastructure of all banks in the South American country may have been compromised after Redbanc, the company charged with maintaining all ATM networks in the country, was hacked into by a suspected North Korean hacker group.
The attack is believed to be the handiwork of the notorious Lazarus Group (also known as Hidden Cobra) that has been blamed for a number of other audacious attacks over the past years, including the Sony hack in 2014 and the WannaCry 2.0 infestation in 2017.
According to reports, the network got infected after a Redbanc employee installed a piece of software on their computer on being asked to do so by operatives that had reportedly advertised fake job openings on LinkedIn. The Redbanc employee was looking for a job as a developer, and had applied for the position in good faith.
