Tim Cook has reportedly revealed that Apple replaced 11 million iPhone batteries in 2018, after opening up discounted and free battery replacement for users. The number is a huge increase over the regular 1-2 million replacements that Apple does every year.
Apple reduced the price of its battery replacement program as part of the fallout from its iPhone throttling debacle last year.
According to Daring Fireball’s John Gruber, who has been tracking Apple for years, the program hurt Apple’s bottom line, and this became clear after the launch of iPhone XR and XS models, which have seen weak sales in key markets.
