Google Assistant is becoming increasingly popular among consumers, and it will be on 1 billion devices by the end of this month, claimed Google at CES 2019. The company also announced that the software will soon be accessible from the lock-screens of many more smartphones.
As pointed out by TechCrunch, the functionality was originally announced last October as an exclusive feature on the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, but it’s not immediately clear if going forward, it will be a native Android feature available on all Android smartphones, or if it will be rolled out on a device-to-device basis.
Just like on the Pixel 3, it will be an opt-in feature on the other devices as well, and for security reasons, Google says it will only work with a voice that’s preset by the device’s rightful owner.
