Tiny Trackers Embedded in Rhino Horns Can Help Fight Back Against Poachers

French company Sigfox has developed a $30 tracker that could change the game towards the good side in the fight against rhino poaching. The tracker can be easily inserted into the horns of rhinos and can help conservationists monitor and protect the endangered species.
Sigfox sensors give the exact location of rhinos using the firm’s network over a longer period of time. It can alert park rangers when rhinos are near known poaching zones, and the data can be used by rescue teams in real time. The Sigfox network uses a specific radio signal which offers more security than other tracking devices. The sensor only wakes up when it has to transmit data, which makes it immune to interception by poachers.
