In an op-ed for Time magazine on Thursday, Apple CEO, Tim Cook, urged US lawmakers to pass a comprehensive federal privacy law that would enable all American citizens to delete any data being collected about them by technology companies.
According to Cook, “In 2019, it’s time to stand up for the right to privacy — yours, mine, all of ours. Consumers shouldn’t have to tolerate another year of companies irresponsibly amassing huge user profiles, data breaches that seem out of control and the vanishing ability to control our own digital lives”.
Tim Cook has been a vocal proponent of new US regulations to help boost user-privacy and data protection. He has also been a long-time critic of companies like Google and Facebook for their controversial data-mining practices.
