Talking to the media on the sidelines of the recently concluded CES 2019, AMD CEO Lisa Su said the company plans to bring ray tracing to its GPUs.
In an interview to PC World, Su said that ray tracing is "one of the important technologies ... and you will hear more about what we’re doing with ray tracing (in the days ahead)".
She, however, didn't give an ETA for the rollout, saying "other parts of the ecosystem are not ready" for the new technology. According to her, "we certainly have a lot going on, both hardware and software, as we bring up that entire ecosystem".
AMD's all-new Radeon VII desktop GPU chips support 3D rendering, but doesn’t offer ray tracing, which has already been incorporated by rival Nvidia in its RTX GPUs.
